The 27m organization
Most of our work is carried out in project teams of 2-7 people. These teams are forming and re-forming depending on the special skills needed for each project. Each team is headed by a staff project leader, who takes project responsibility while also contributing actively to the development. Teamwork as well as individual responsibility are encouraged.
Technologies
We use mainly C with some assembly language for our software. Interpreted languages such as Python or Pike are often used in the build process or for support tools. C++ is used for some external software components.
Target systems are typically equipped with an integrated DVB chip, containing a risc-type CPU core, e.g. MIPS, PowerPC or SuperH, with extra hardware functions for media processing (MPEG audio/video decode, transport stream demultiplexing/filtering). DVB chips are provided by ATI, Renesas, STMicroelectronics, IBM and others. Examples of other important hardware blocks are the RF front-end, smart card reader, network interfaces, and video output.
Feature development targets for example hardware I/O and control, user interfaces, media processing, and service information management, based on our existing technology for DVB.
Our work environment
Our facilities are divided into office rooms, each seating two engineers, providing control of the sound environment (though open doors are encouraged). Some work is carried out in our open hardware/test lab. Work is normally carried out on GNU/Linux PCs connected to a target system. Detailed workstation configuration is under the control of the engineer.
